BIKE PROGRAMME
Sabato/Saturday: Panoramica Strada. 85-100km
After checking in we start the week with a beautiful ride along the
Panoramica Strada as it is know by the local people. After first
navigating Riccione and Cattolica we climb up to the coat road and ride
up and down all the way to Pesaro, all the way accompanied by great
views of either the sea or the surrounding countryside...or both! It is a
ride that many local riders use and you are likely to see many of them
using it nd not many cars! After Pesaro we head inland on flat roads for
10km before taking on the days main climb of 6km to Sant Angelo in
Lizzola where we will stop for coffee. After we take a winding descent
followed by flat roads through Montecchio and on to th days ast real
climb, 3km up to Tavullia, home town of the famous world champion
motorcyclist Valentino Rossi...watch out for the number 46!!! From here
its les than 20km back to Riccione and the hotel.
Domenica/Sunday: Urbino 100km 1350m (possibility to ride 115km 1750m)
Today we visit Urbino. Urbino is a beautiful walled University City and
full of history and was home to the famous artist Raffaello. Several
climbs on this tour including 5km to Montefiore Conca and the 10km to
Urbino itself but no steep gradients unless you decide you wish to take
the more challenging way via Pieve di Cagna!!! The return journey does
not have so many long hills but does include 2 short but steep ones.
Hopefully your mind and legs will be distracted by the beautiful
views!!!
Lunedi/Monday: Saludecio, Mondaino 80km 1000m
Quiet roads and pretty views passing through small villages and
fortressed towns. No real long climbs but lots of ups and downs along
the way….we want to save some energy for the Cippo tomorrow! We head
towards Gradara on rural roads before visiting Saludecio, Mondaino &
Tavoleto. From here we can lengthen the tour (more climbing too!)if
required and ride via Monte Altavelio or finish the planned 80km whilst
still using quiet roads.
Martedi/Tuesday: Cippo, Passo Cantoniera, San Leo Villagrande 2500m+ (Transfer Day)
A hard day but very worth it! We visit some of the highest points in the
area (Cippo & Villagrande) and also one of the most beautiful, San
Leo. Passo Cantoniera will take us to the foot of The Cippo, a climb
famous for being Marco Pantani’s training hill and the altitude rising
to approx 1400m. Only 7km we hear you say but its 13% average gradient
with sections of 18-20%. Marco still holds the record at just over
16minutes. Check your watch at the bottom and see how you compare. After
we visit the stunning town of San Leo, set on top of a big rock and you
will wonder how they built it there!!! Then it’s on to Villagrande at
nearly 1000m above sea level where we arrive at Hotel Parco del Lago
, your base for 2 nights and the following days ride. We will of course
transport your luggage there so it is ready for you upon your arrival.
Mercoledi/Wednesday: Pieve Santo Stefano -Tuscany 110km
Due to our location after staying the night in Villagrande, riding into
Tuscany is possible, something that is not really possible from Riccione
and the purpose of our 2 center stay. We will take on some challenging
climbs and ride some beautiful roads we have not used before on our
tours with the aid of a local guide who will show us the Italian way! We
will visit the beautiful Pieve Santo Stefano in the south east of
Tuscany. Small community with population of only 3000 people. Near
Monte Fumaiolo, in the center of the Tiberina Valley and dates back to
before the Romans.
After coffee, we return to Parco del Lago to recover and relax using the
spa and facilities available there.
Giovedi/Thursday: Valle di Teva – Tavoleto
Today we say goodbye to Parco del Lago and return to Riccione by bike.
However, on our way back we have another great ride in store for our
guests. We return via Valle di Teva, a beautiful road with almost no (if
any!) cars and more stunning views. After a steep descent we ride the
Foglia Valley down before deciding which of the 2 climbs we take to
Tavoleto, the first direct and 5km or the second steeper, longer and
more challenging via Montecalvo in Foglia. We then return to Riccione
back to The Milano Helvetia.
Venerdi/Friday: San Marino – Verucchio
Now it’s the turn of the world’s oldest Republic of San Marino to be our
destination. A long climb of 10km+ but very worth it for the stunning
views at the summit. You can see all the way to the coast from one side
and for miles inland from another viewpoint. After a coffee stop there
we descend and visit the pretty town of Verucchio before returning to
Riccione on quiet rolling roads. During the evening we will prepare a
photo show in the hotels tv lounge for us to re-live the highlights of
our week and maybe enjoy a glass of wine (or more!) whilst we do so.
Sabato/Saturday: Late Check out.
